About the Character
The CW's official character description: "[A] smart, slightly smug, but with a strong moral compass, Liam is Walker's younger gay and conservative brother who has been recently promoted to assistant DA. Liam and Walker are close, but Liam gives his brother no shortage of tough love. Liam has always stayed close to home, often sacrificing his personal life in favor of his family duties. In Walker's absence, he stepped up to take Walker's kids under his wing. Liam's close relationship with Walker's son and daughter makes Walker slightly jealous."[1]
History
Liam was born and raised in Austin, Texas, to Bonham and Abeline Walker. He's the youngest of two brothers, about 7 years younger than Cordell. As an adult, he made the move to New York to become an attorney, working extensively to become Assistant District Attorney. He is in a longterm relationship with his fiancé Bret, and they both left New York to be with Liam's family after Cordell's wife Emily is murdered, and Cordell goes undercover for an extended period of time.
Liam and Bret have helped care for Cordell's children (Liam's niece and nephew), Stella and August, and they've become significantly close in the time spent together. After Cordell halted communication with his children for three months straight, Liam filed for custody of Stella and August (with the approval of Abeline and Bonham). Unfortunately for him, he was unable to gain custody, but he's remained in their lives as a pseudo father figure to ensure the kids have a healthy upbringing.
In the episode Don't Fence Me In, it is revealed that Liam has been further investigating Emily's murder (as has Capt. James, according to Liam's coworker Ada), and has begun to look into the drone surveillance footage from the night of the crime. In Duke, he confronts Capt. James over this and they make it clear that they both believe that something is "off" about the murder.
