Plot

As Captain Larry James receives a standing ovation after returning to the Texas Rangers headquarters from his ordeal in the hospital, he notices that Cordell is attending Thomas Serano's bail hearing. Given Serano's relatively clean reputation with the law and Liam Walker's questionable recent actions, Serano is granted bail, effectively putting Cordell on the defensive over fear of reprisals from the Northside Nation. As he enjoys the luxuries of being back home, Serano learns that District Attorney Denise Davidson's husband Dan Miller has evidence that Serano installed a surveillance network at the Walker ranch.

When Dan learns that Serano has made bail, he panics and reveals he does indeed have the incriminating evidence against the crime boss. Dan turns to Liam for help, offering him the evidence in exchange for immunity and anonymity, threatening to recant everything if Cordell or Denise find out. Liam shares the information with Captain James, Denise, and Cordell, with everyone agreeing to Dan's illicit terms, though Denise is concerned about granting blanket immunity to someone she doesn't know. Meanwhile, Serano personally calls Dan to threaten him not to share the evidence or warn the Rangers, prompting Dan to call off the deal.

Suspecting the deal will go sideways, Cordell leads a contingent of Rangers to intercept Serano and Dan's meeting by tracking Dan's license plate to the train station. As their meeting starts to grow tense, Cordell intervenes as weapons are drawn by Serano's men. This results in a small firefight, with Serano attempting to take a hostage before fleeing alone, Cordell in hot pursuit. This high-octane car chase comes to a shocking end when Serano's car is struck by a big rig truck, with Serano taunting Cordell with his last breath. In the aftermath, Liam gives Dan his promised immunity, with Dan warning Liam that he still owes him for saving his life from Northside.

The Side Step is preparing to spotlight local bands, with August agreeing to play keyboards as part of the event, all to impress his crush Faye. As the families assemble at the bar for the concert, Walker privately tips off Denise that he is aware Dan is Liam's informant. As August's band impresses the crowd, Geri Broussard advises Dan's son Colton to tell Stella how he feels about her, contemplating taking similar steps with her relationship with Cordell. As Denise reviews Northside's surveillance footage of the Walker family alone, she finds a video of Walker confessing to his mother Abeline of being responsible for the barn fire that killed Denise's father all those years ago, making this family feud all the more complicated.[1]
