Plot

Three months after the Walker Season 1 finale, Trey Barnett helps Cordell and Liam stay in shape back at the ranch while Trey's girlfriend Micki Ramirez remains working undercover on a dangerous assignment for the Texas Rangers. The Walker family is privately concerned that Trey is overextending himself in Micki's absence. Seeing an old barn while returning home, Cordell recalls a memory from his teenage years where he was nearly caught there hanging out with Denise Davidson by her angry, overprotective father. The barn then accidentally caught on fire in the confusion, resulting in Denise's father's death.

In Del Rio, Texas, Micki has taken on the undercover alias Yvette as she embarks on a high-octane car chase before moving to steal a vintage muscle car containing some illegal contraband, to maintain her cover with lowlife hood Matt Phillips. Meeting up with Captain Larry James, Micki reveals that she has been unable to learn more information about the sniper in Austin who shot corrupt Department of Public Safety head Stan Morrison in the Season 1 finale. Trey secretly reunites with Micki at a dive bar where she is hanging out with Matt, only for Micki to urge him to leave before Matt is killed by his gangland superiors in the parking lot.

Returning to work, Cordell is shocked to learn that Denise, all grown-up, is the new District Attorney, with James having Cordell personally brief her on the cases the Rangers are currently investigating. Denise is concerned that Cordell's friendship with Micki may compromise the case she is currently assigned to, but Cordell assures her he can stay objective and professional. Liam takes being outmaneuvered for the DA job poorly, drinking away his sorrows at the Side Step (under Geri's supervision) before Denise and her family arrive, resulting in a brief scuffle, as Denise's family is still visibly resentful over the death of her father and the Walker family then acquiring their land for the family ranch.

Meanwhile, Bonham has begun his chemotherapy, with the treatments working well and his marriage to Abeline stronger than ever. He faces this medical procedure with her by his side before the two have an uncomfortable reunion with Gale Davidson. At school, Trey breaks up a fight between August, Stella and an abrasive classmate named Colton, who is revealed to be Denise's son. Gale later revisits the ranch for a tense conversation with Abeline, tacitly threatening the Walker family matriarch as she confirms that the Davidsons have officially returned to the neighborhood.

Learning from Trey that the case Micki is undercover for involves her searching for the triggerman behind the sniper attack that nearly killed Cordell, the lawman meets with Micki and warns her that her cover may have been compromised. Cordell and a newly promoted Ranger named Randall apprehend a violent gangbanger named Morgan, with Micki moving for a meeting with Serano, of the Northside Nation as Cordell and James look on in hiding. At the end of the episode, it's revealed that Garrison Murphy is among Serano's crew, and he is mentioned by Micki as being "the one that got away" in the past.[1]
